BTW, what heads are on it now?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I did have ambassadors on it. I've been trying different things. At the moment a Genera Dry with a resonant 300 on the bottom. This has not brought me great happiness though. Perhaps I will try a coated G1. Maybe it's the 6.5 inch depth that is not doing it for me. I seem to be lacking some sensitivity as well. I feel I am looking for a very specific sound in my head that I am not achieving in this drum. Very quick, very sensitive...I'm not getting it here. I am just getting a choked sound that lacks the sensitivity desired. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Well Ambassadors are pretty lively heads, probably moreso than G1's. You might want to try the Terry Bossio Signature Attack heads. I love them on snare.

    How are you tuning it?

I'm also wondering if there isn't something wrong with the drum itself. Out of round, bent hoop, something. What your saying just doesn't seem right. These are generally very lively drums with beautiful tone.

On my Free Floater I've got a coated Ambassador on the batter, and Ambassador snare on the bottom. I tune the bottom tight, with the top a little bit looser. I find that what gives my snare the pop and sensitivity that I desire (even more so then the head tuning) is cranking up the snares. Try that, or maybe some new snare wires while your at it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I do the same except I tighten the snares only enough to stop any residual buzz, no tighter than that.

I've got a maple 14x3.5 that i bought when i was a bit more of a noob...i used to have a genera dry head on it and it was shitty! dry heads are gonna have less tone and my head had those air holes as well....now i have amb coated on top and amb snare on bottom! i have the snares slightly on the looser side....just a good combination of none snare snare sound and snare snare sound!

i dont dig the 3.5 depth too much but thats what im stuck with for now...gotta save up money for more important things like surviving! i wont get any more gear unless its a present until im actually doing gigs...don;t need to spend money to play in my room
